NEWS![]() Completely Authentic Amanda Harland By Ruth Koenigsmark Though Amanda Harland takes inspiration from famed, beat artist Jackson Pollock of the 1940’s and 50’s, with her non-representational, abstract explosion of color on canvas, her ability and style is completely authentic and contemporary. Harland’s work dazzles the viewer with swirls of color reminiscent of some of life’s favorite things, like the ocean after you spent a long while following the graceful motion of the waves while sipping on a cool drink or how people morphed into swirly slices of color as you road the tilt- a- whirl as a kid. Harland’s art bursts forth with wild energy and color, demonstrating passion for life, love and color. “Its emotional painting, whatever I'm feeling I let flow out and guide my hand through the colors. Nature has a lot to do with the color combinations I choose to use; sunset, night sky, a field of flowers, or even polluted shorelines. Most of my paintings are also done to a particular song or album set on repeat to keep my mind frame focused” says Harland. One must view Harland’s paintings from a variety of perspectives, moving in and out, focusing on both the piece as a whole and in sections to experience its essence. It’s work that would be a wonderful companion for the astute art collector looking for an artist that is completely authentic in her style and approach to her craft. Currently her work is being displayed at Manja, 13373 Madison Avenue in Lakewood, and at the Tremont Artwalk every second Friday at Visible Voice Books, 1023 Kenilworth.
